LOGGED IN at last!

OH MY GOODNESS. I've been trying to log into my wp blog for days and I finally did it! Usually my account is logged in automatically on my laptop but I might have recently erased all cookies, caches and what not so dun dun dun dun, I was logged out of everything!

This repercussion is pretty dire considering I use about eight passwords for different network accounts. Emails and everything else I use frequently, especially sites I log in and out of constantly, are fine because I remember the exact passwords for those but I have only recently set up this wp blog and the password was an unusual variable of what I usually use so when my log in attempts failed, I just clicked the 'lost password' link. It was then supposed to send a confirmation email with a reset link BUT! As Murphy's Law dictates, that email never comes. By the time I remembered the elusive password, it was useless since the password has been reset. Days passed and I tried sending many confirmation emails, in vain.

So Google came to the rescue and I had to reset everything via PhpMyAdmin. Now that everything is settled, I'm ready to blog again. stay tuned.

xoxo from Madrid.

Disastrous weekend

First, a funeral, then a fire.

Things are really fucked up back home right now.

My family store burned down to the ground along with a hundred others last night.

A fucker wanted to buy the land the building it was on but couldn't compensate store owners to move so he paid people to torch the land.

The firemen were bribed as well and they sprayed water onto empty field instead of the flaming building at ground zero. It is speculated that this incident is tied in with a notorious figure in Jakarta society who is known to be extremely unscrupulous and ruthless.

This is too surreal for me to comprehend right now.

LAX to LHR

I'm flying to London in about 10 hours. 2 luggages, 5 pairs of shoes and tons of dresses. Since the baggage capacity has been reduced to measly 23 kg per luggage, I have no choice but to leave behind over 25 odd pairs of shoes here as well as almost all of my stuffed toys. Bye bye Campbell, Valentino, Ryo-chan, Trudy, Moomoo, Kitten and Sunkist Simone. Mommy will miss you much.

Here are two pairs of shoes I bought recently which I'm bringing along to London, of course,

minnetonkas bought for less than 20 dollars!

This pair was on sale at shoes.com for only USD17. I had to get it, you see.

this pair was well-worth the money too

This pair of Michael Kors was on sale at Macy's from 120 to (with extra coupons) USD52!

The streets of London will beat up any pair of heels in a couple of days but I'm determined to walk in style this summer. Rainbows are fine in LA but they are a tad too casual for Europe.

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra

I've been a very busy bee lately, hanging out with different friends at familiar places for the sake of reminiscing some fond memories and making quite a handful of new ones as well. Two nights ago, I went to a house party at Kiyoshi's, shared a bottle of good red wine, bonded with some old friends and watched how pot is smoked for the first time in my life. I know the putrid smell of it but had never actually sen someone smoke pot until that night. People were jolly and really friendly though but I didn't stay very long because the host was getting wasted real fast. I'm going to miss him and his tight hugs a lot. Yesterday, my gb Alex and my big bro took me out to a great sushi dinner in Little Tokyo. We then had fro-yo desserts at Pinkberry across the street and I met my other big bro's long-time friend Andrew there. It's nice to meet friends I haven't seen in a while and be able to say my goodbyes so at least they know where I'll be going to and won't feel too distant after finding out my whereabouts later.

Since none of us had planned anything for the night, we decided to go to The Grove and watch the star-studded G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra. That movie is just pure adrenaline FUN, FUN, FUN. It is action-packed, filled with gorgeous scenes of beautiful places (loves Paris, anyone?) and the cast has really witty lines ('We're a longgg way from Miami'). I don't want to spoil it for any of you so let's just say, I love Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Brian Lee! I have a thing or two for the bad brood, you see. Just go watch the movie already. Just don't expect any deep-thinking plot from it. After all, it is a franchise flick that is fantasy-based like X-Men and Fantastic Four except this one packs a powerful combo of plot twists and character development for a fantasy movie. My favorite characters from the movie are definitely the sparring brothers, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.

Brian Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow
Brian Lee Byung-hun as Storm Shadow

You can't really see his face here but I can assure you that the Korean superstar/mega-actor is smashingly good-looking. He also speaks fluent English, French and Mandarin to boot (besides his native Korean). I know he speaks French and English very well but I didn't know that he's fluent in Mandarin as well. Now I officially feel like a failure because my fluency in all of these languages, including my native Indonesian, is subpar at best. This is definitely time for me to revise my French and Mandarin. I will not lose out to him!

Also, remember to always put on lotions and moisturisers before you sleep to slow any aging signs from now on. Brian Lee is about 37 years old, which is more than a decade older than Sienna Miller, but he looks the same age as her in the movie, give or take a couple of years. We have asian genes to thank for but it is never too much to take precautions :)

TOKIDOKI x Onitsuka Tiger sticker

If you subscribe to Nylon magazine, you'd know that this month's issue comes with a free TOKIDOKI x Onitsuka Tigercollabo sticker which is really, really cute. I was pleasantly surprised to find this between the pages instead of the usual subscription flyers.

TIGAHHHH. rawr.
TIGAHHHH. rawr.

Then I flipped it and saw the back of the sticker...

say WHUATT?
say WHUATT?

FML.

Now I'm dissatisfied with having just 1 of 4 stickers. I must have all 4 of them but I'm not willing to buy 3 extra copies of Nylon mags especially since I dislike this issue - no thanks to the denim overload articles and what-nots. Does anybody have the other three stickers and is willing to give them to me (I'm pushing my luck, I know)? Pity the OCD girl who is losing sleep over not having a full set of something that should exist as a set. Yes?

On an unrelated note, the external hard disk I ordered about a week ago had arrived in the mail. I slapped on my complimentary apple sticker that I got from my Macbook purchase a year ago and now it looks like this

400 GB Western Digital Essential Passport in Red
400 GB Western Digital Essential Passport in Red

I bought this for only USD91, inclusive of shipping and handling, from TigerDirect.com via a link on Buy.com per Katy's suggestion on one of her recent posts. It is totally worth the price I paid for and now I can do away with my bulky 250GB Laciepaperweight (srsly). Help me think of a pretty name for it. I'm stuck between Leo and Park. Which one do you think is better?

The blog's commenting system has been replaced with DISQUS because it allows both threaded comments and easy subscription in one awesome plugin. For me, managing the comments on Disqus is definitely easier than using Wordpress default comment since I'm familiar with admin panel and have been using it for my tumblr for over a year now. Tumblr recommends Disqus!

My childhood friend is getting married this weekend.

He's 23.

My madre just called to tell me that my childhood friend’s mom (nicknamed “Mother-in-Law” by my padre because she used to match-make me with said friend) sent an invitation to her son’s August 9 wedding addressed to “*Mars, [Her son’s name]’s elementary school friend”. I bet she sent a messenger to deliver the invitation instead of mailing it.

I’m supposed to expect an email from that friend but taking into consideration that we have not spoken or kept in contact in any possible way for over four years, it’s safe to say that the chance of me receiving such an email is 50-50. My heart really says it’s more like 0. I don’t think he knows my email address and neither do I know his. Also, he doesn’t have a Facebook account and mine is not searchable outside of my two networks. Every time I went back for holidays, his mom made him and his little sister take me out to lunch/dinner and drive me back home so I don’t think he likes me very much. Things have always been awkward and embarrassing for both of us because we were very competitive back in elementary school but his mom would treat us like we were meant to be together (wrong, obviously). I would tell-tale to her all the bad things he did every day after class and he’d be really upset with me but he still had to give cakes and presents for my birthdays using his name. The first time this happened, he said, “It’s from my mom, not me. Understood?”

He treated me better as we grew older, of course, such as standing up for me when a mutual friend accused me of being high-maintenance and having a holier-than-thou attitude because I was a little hesitant to take a cab home from a sketchy part of Jakarta. Just fyi, taxis in Jakarta are very different from the ones here. There’s a reason why most people drive instead of taking the cab. Besides, my friend drives and he knew his mom wouldn’t approve of him letting me take a cab home because our parents know each other and doing that is a big NO-NO in the parents’ world. He snapped at the accuser and shut her up good that day. Thank goodness for that because I was left speechless when the girl started throwing sarcastic, mean comments at me and I didn’t expect such treatment from someone I’ve known since pre-school. I remembered that I was pretty quiet and detached during the outing that day so I didn’t expect him to stand up for me. I’m tougher and (can be) much bitchier than the other girl but his action made me feel less of a rival/friend and more of a girl. I’m thankful for that.

Anyway, he’s getting married a week from now and I won’t be there. Does he wonder sometimes if I have changed? I do. I also wonder how his pretty sister (superrr pretty. why is he different from the rest of his family? haha. just kidding) is doing in Singapore right now. Years ago, he told me that his sister would never study abroad because she can’t bear to leave their parents’ embrace but look at where she is now :)

I was half-listening to my madre on the phone and half-wondering about all these past happenings when she told me that I have to call my friend’s mom and congratulate her. My friend’s mom seems eager to make contact again because she gave her daughter’s information to my mom in case I want to hang out with the Pretty Miss when I return from the States. Now I felt obliged. If I were to make those phone calls tomorrow, he better send (find my email first) that email to acknowledge my existence too. My lil sis is going to be upset with me because my mom plans to take her to the wedding in place of me. She doesn’t know yet.

おめでとう、アルベルト。

PS: Now I feel like I have to get married soon too. Damn him. Why must he always be one step ahead of me? -.-“

I LOVE JIRO

Yes, the only legit JIRO - the adorable and very talented bassist from GLAY. I bought my first GLAY album way back in 2000 and JIRO became my favourite almost immediately because I love the bass beats in all GLAY songs. Since then, I've collected quite a few GLAY cds, DVDs, featured magazines and most importantly, JIRO's Caramel Pavilion photobook. I'm still on the hunt for JIRO's Caramel Box in mint condition. If anyone is willing to sell me his, don't hesitate to contact and quote me a reasonable price (in USD).

Bonjour

I'm celebrating the opening of this blog by listening to La Roux's electric song, Bulletproof. It wasn't easy to install things into place since this is my first time having a personal hosted site but I'm so glad everything's ready now! Cyberduck makes file transferring a breeze. I definitely recommend it.

elly jackson is gorgeous!

Welcome to Culture of Men. I'll be adding more content rapidly over the next couple of weeks.
